OBJECTIVE: To highlight the diagnostic features and the benefits of prosthetic rehabilitation with removable overdenture.
CASE REPORT: A 29 years old female patient presented with complaint of not being happy and comfortable with the size and shape of her teeth. On clinical examination, the patient presented with alopecia, koilonychias, sparse hair on her skin, appeared warm and dry. There was sparse hair on her eye brow and eye lashes, with moderate dryness of the oral mucosa, partial anodontia and hypoplastic conical teeth in the upper and lower jaws. A diagnosis of hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia was made based on history, clinical and radiographic findings. Upper and lower removable partial overdenture fabricated and fitted successfully
CONCLUSION: Prosthetic rehabilitation of patients with ectodermal dysplasia presents a unique challenge to the prosthodontist. Treatment with an overdenture was useful to improve function, aesthetics and self-confidence in the patient.
